Universiti Malaya (UM)

Universiti Malaya (UM), the oldest university in Malaysia, is located on a sprawling 922-acre campus in the southwest of Kuala Lumpur. Founded on September 28, 1905, in Singapore as the King Edward VII College of Medicine, it officially became Universiti Malaya on October 8, 1949, following the merger with Raffles College. UM experienced rapid growth in its early years, leading to the establishment of two autonomous divisions in 1959, which later became a national university in 1962.

The university celebrated the installation of its first Chancellor, Tunku Abdul Rahman Putra Al-Haj, on June 16, 1962. Today, His Royal Highness Sultan Nazrin Muizzuddin Shah serves as the Chancellor. UM's vision is to be a global university making a significant impact, with a mission focused on pushing the boundaries of knowledge and nurturing future leaders.
